ABOUT THE FOUNDER:

Zuzzie Kapas is a San Diego-based interdisciplinary artist working across visual arts, dance performance, and the study of consciousness. Her creative process investigates the relationship between the body and nature, the aesthetic dimensions of creation, and the philosophical and metaphysical questions that shape human experience.

Informed by a life of sustained self-inquiry and intimate engagement with the unconscious, Zuzzie approaches her creative process with fluency in both the felt dimensions of the psyche and the enduring language of symbols. This foundation deepens her visual art and movement-based expression, giving rise to work that is both personal and symbolically expansive, opening a space for viewers to reflect upon the currents of their own lives.

Zuzzie’s work as an interdisciplinary artist bridges the Western frameworks of behavioral neuroscience and somatic psychotherapy with depth psychology and ancient, mystical, and archetypal traditions. Through this lens, her work explores the subtle, unseen layers of perception and embodiment.

Alongside her personal artistic inquiry, Zuzzie spent over a decade facilitating spaces for deeper exploration, both within psychiatric hospital settings and through nature-based retreats, where she contributed as a co-organizer and eco-somatic facilitator. In both contexts, she guided somatic self-inquiry through movement improvisation, role play, and expressive visual arts, curating spaces that supported collective psychological inquiry and invited self-reflection. These experiences, in turn, continually informed and enriched her ongoing research.

In addition to her work as an artist, facilitator, and researcher, Zuzzie brings expertise in business administration, project management, and community engagement to San Diego’s arts and culture sector. Her work focuses on strengthening collaboration, expanding organizational reach, and elevating the visibility of emerging artists. Through these efforts, she contributes to shaping the evolving landscape of the region’s arts and cultural community.

I know that nothing has ever been real

without my beholding it.

All becoming has needed me.

My looking ripens things

and they come toward me, to meet and be met.
